This event is sponsored by the Valley Medical Foundation and enables children with disabilities or critical illnesses to fly in private airplanes.  Several other nonprofits and vendors participate to offer families accessible activities as well as resources for families with children with special needs.

Dogs for Diabetics Presentation 7:30 pm

This is an employee health fair and CCI will have an information booth there.

Volunteers needed with CCI dogs for two hour shifts to staff an information booth.
5 Presentation to Peninsula Volunteers    Palo Alto Sheridan 11:15 a.m

Presentation to large established group of volunteers serving the elderly in the community.
9 Puppy Class      Redwood City Courthouse Square
12 Reading to Dogs  Grail Family Services    East San Jose  4-6 pm.

Volunteers with CCI dogs needed.  Older pups okay but must be able to sit still. They will get breaks between children.  These are children that need the motivation to read.
13 Puppy Raiser Seminar     Schulz Campus Santa Rosa

Open to all puppy raisers in NW Region.
16 Puppy Class    Mountain View Community Center  6:45 - 8:30pm
20 Bark in the Park    Williams St. Park San Jose 10-5 pm

This event is a favorite for dogs. At least 2,500 dogs and 10,000 people attend this event with every breed of dog imaginable (and they are all well behaved.)  There are nearly 100 exhibitors with products and services for dogs, canine games, an opportunity to try an agility course, and a variety of demonstrations.  It is a fun event.

21 Celebrity Chef    Schulz Campus Santa Rosa 2-6 p.m.

This is the Northwest Region's major fund raiser and features Napa and Sonoma Valley wines paired with entrees prepared by various local chefs. There will be a silent and live auction as well.

27 Autism Conference     University of Santa Clara 8 am - 5 p.m.

Well-known authorities on autism will be giving presentations at this event.  CCI will be one of many exhibitors providing resources to parents with children with autism.

Volunteers needed: Skilled Companion Team parents of children with autism are needed to share their experiences of having a Skilled Companion for their child at our information booth. Our volunteers can attend any of the workshops.

8 Disability Awareness Day     City Hall Plaza San Jose 11-4 p.m

This resource fair is sponsored by the City of San Jose, Valley Medical Center & Foundation, the Silicon Valley Independent Living Center and several other agencies serving people with disabilities. October is  National Disability Awareness Month.

Volunteers needed with CCI dogs for two hour shifts to staff an information booth.
11 Reading to Dogs at the Edenvale Library      San Jose 1-3 p.m

This library is in South San Jose and, like the other Reading to Dogs activities, targets reluctant readers, but all children are able to participate.

Volunteers needed with CCI dogs that can maintain a down and "listen" nicely.  The dogs get breaks between children so it's not a "2-hour down."  Most CCI dogs can do this activity easily.    It's a good socialization experience for pups in training.
